Ai Weiwei’s Guerilla Proclamation at the 54th Venice Biennale

Marc-Antoine Léval‘s latest guerilla stunt outside the entrance to the 54th Venice Biennale. I’ve always liked the humour and brazen nature of (aka “The Immaterial Art Emperor”Léval’s work. This particular performance prompted voices of disapproval from a morally and politically correct crowd, “Ai Weiwei did not authorize this!”  Just the sort of participation the work demands.

Liberate Tate

Posted in guerilla art, London, protests by petercombe on April 21, 2011

On Wednesday, April 2oth, artists from art activist group Liberate Tate staged a performance in Tate Britain on the anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon explosion that spilled 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico over 87 days.

A naked member of the group had an oil-like substance poured over him and lay in a fetal position on the floor in the middle of the exhibition entitled Single Form. Dedicated to the human body, Single Form is one of a series of ‘BP British Art Displays’ staged throughout the galleries of Tate Britain.
The guerilla performance lasted 87 minutes— one for every day oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico.

Facebook and the Serendipitous Captcha

Posted in captchas, Parallels, serendipity, type, WTF? by petercombe on May 11, 2010

The above captcha screenshot certainly applies to the following;

I’ve been asked to submit all US art related happenings to my immigration lawyer re: my Visa application. I mentioned my writing in a book about Parisian artist Marc-Antoine Léval, the lawyer’s response was ‘That would be valuable for the case, submit it, and I’ll see that the government employee assigned to your case receives it as part of the arts related package’. Posted a Facebook link to my blog moments ago regarding the book and chuckled when I had to enter the captcha.

My Writing for Marc-Antoine Léval

Posted in Art, guerilla art, Installation, text by petercombe on May 11, 2010

Delighted by the mail delivery today. Paris based artist, Marc-Antoine Léval, “The Immaterial Art Emperor”, asked me to contribute some writing about his work for a book that was being published to coincide with an exhibition of his work in Paris. I wrote the piece in early February and all but forgot about it. Was rather pleased to find a signed copy in my mailbox this afternoon. My written piece is pictured right in top photo.
